You mess with the deer, you get the horns.
Two Lower Mainland hunters were apprehended and charged will illegal deer hunting in the Meager Creek area near Pemberton, the Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks announced this week.
The hunters, identified as Rasheed Ali Shah of New Westminster and Razad Shah of Burnaby, were charged under the provincial Wildlife Act for hunting deer with the use of a light, and for hunting deer with a firearm during prohibited hours. The alleged illegal activity occurred on the morning of Oct. 1.
Conservation officers who were patrolling the area were tipped off by other hunters in the area.
The maximum penalty for hunting with the use of a light is $100,000 and/or one year in jail. The maximum penalty for hunting during prohibited hours is $50,000 and/or one year in jail. Rasheed and Razad made their first appearance in Pemberton provincial court on Nov. 30.
According to the ministry, illegal hunting and angling activities threaten provincial fish and wildlife resources. Through the Observe, Record, Report program, all B.C. residents are urged to do what they can to combat this illegal activity. If illegal activity is suspected, the government has set up a toll-free ‘snitch’ line at 1-800-663 WILD (9453).
