Dekker to join Chu on Saturday night

North Shore songstress Melanie Dekker will grace the Bearfoot Bistro with her striking presence this Saturday evening.

Who: Melanie Dekker with Cameron Chu

Where: Bearfoot Bistro & Champagne Bar

When: Saturday, May 15

The solo artist will join the bistro’s house piano man Cameron Chu for a night of folk-pop and jazzy R&B-flavoured tunes.

Whistlerites might remember Dekker from her regular appearances at the Crystal Lounge a few years back.

Her solo sound has been compared to such illustrious artists as Sheryl Crow and Jewel (before the latter’s ill-conceived pop-diva makeover), with thoughtful, intimate vocals over honest guitar strumming.

She is also known for her skills as a songwriter. The Dekker-penned Hollow won the Great Canadian Song Search in 2003. Another composition, Speechless , appears on the soundtrack for independent feature film Little Brother of War , which local cinephiles may remember from its screening at the Whistler Film Festival last December.

The hard-working Dekker recently returned from a tour of Germany and the Netherlands and will be jet setting off to New York to perform on May 25.

In the meantime, she continues to perform regularly in the Vancouver area.
