"The money raised will be held in trust awaiting the opening of our new library, at which time it will be used to provide the latest library tools to ensure that Whistler has the most up-to-date library possible to service our community," said Anne Fenwick, Chair of the Library Board of Trustees, who was thrilled with the results.
The sold out event attracted 225 attendees dressed for the occasion in their denim and diamonds – real and faux.
Local resident, Noel Villard, is looking forward to his six-night stay at the Fairmont Orchid hotel in Hawaii, donated by long time Whistler supporter David Roberts.
This year’s event was sponsored in part by newcomer to Whistler, Scotiabank, which also announced a $15,000 corporate donation to the Whistler Public Library.
"An important initiative for Scotiabank has been to make our giving programs more locally focused for the benefit of those who live and work in the communities we serve," explained Trudy Hofley, District Vice-President for Scotiabank.
"We support the important community service that the Whistler Public Library provides."
Head librarian Joan Richoz said the donation would help to fund an enhanced collection of library materials when everyone moves into the new library.
Other sponsors for Denim & Diamonds were Telus, The Westin Resort and Spa, International Cellars, Keir Fine Jewellery, Nesters Market and Buy-Low Foods.
In addition, 94 individuals and businesses supported the event through donations of goods and services.
The gala was held at the Westin Resort and Spa, which served up a sensational supper. The evening was topped off with dancing to Cease and Desist.
