Get ready to discuss, debate, think and challenge each other in a different kind of speaker series.

Dialogue Cafes, a program which runs in 20 areas of the province, is coming to Whistler in June.

The Cafes allow Whistlerites to talk about burning issues in a comfortable atmosphere. There is no format or agenda.

William Roberts of the Whistler Forum and Bob Anderson, director of the Institute for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University, have spearheaded the Whistler Cafes.

The Whistler Forum is a newly registered non-profit organization spearheaded by Roberts.

"One of our formal purposes (of the Whistler Forum) is to promote and foster the application of dialogue in the enhancement of democratic and civil society," said Roberts.

"So these Dialogue Cafes are a perfect fit."

The first Dialogue Cafe will feature Brent Leigh, president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, who will talk about Whistler as a learning community. The talk kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at the Learning Hub, 4230 Gateway Drive.

The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. That evening at Blenz’s Coffee Shop Dave Waldron, sustainability advisor at the municipality, will kick off the discussion centred on social capital and sustainability.

Marcelo Vareto and Jody Edgar will discuss Growing Up Digital: The Rise of the Net Generation on Sunday June 15 . And on Wednesday June 18 Calvin Winter, CEO of Quantum Technology, will discuss The Innovation Economy - Barriers and Breakthroughs.
