British scratch DJ JFB — a.k.a Jean-Marc Preisler — is back for more.

In the run-up to his first Whistler gig since 2013, at the Garibaldi Lift Company on Thursday, Feb. 5, he recalls performing here "was sick," in the best possible way. The resort is his first stop on a Canadian tour.

"I will be bringing various beats, basslines, scratches and beatjuggles," the two-time U.K. DMC champ says.

Along with still running popular radio and night club battlejams, last year saw JFB setting up an improving funk-jazz band called Multijam and performing at an NFL exhibition game rally in London in October.

It's a pretty eclectic time, he agrees.

"There have been so many more gigs and projects, but the most important thing for me this year has been making my debut album, which is nearly finished," he says. "It's sounding a lot better than I thought it would, so I'm pretty stoked."

Oscar-nominated ski film Force Majeure screened

Swedish dark comedy Force Majeure, nominated for a foreign film Oscar, is being screened at Millennium Place.

Also nominated for a Golden Globe, the film tells the story of a family thrown into crisis after an avalanche. It also won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The screening is the launch of the Whistler Arts Council's new state-of-the-art theatre projector, which was funded by a grant from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.

There will be two screenings, one for all ages with doors opening at 6 p.m. and a 19+ screening with doors opening at 8:45 p.m. General admission is $12, with children and WAC members at $8.

Tickets can be purchased at Millennium Place or online at artswhistler.com.

WAC programs announced

The 2015 season of community arts programming has been announced by the Whistler Arts Council.

For children there is Little Yogis, where they will learn yoga poses and breath work. First-time photographers can learn the basics of digital photography, while young artists can choose from two fine arts classes.

As well, there is a spring break theatre and arts camp put on by LB Productions and Orkidz Art Studio. For youth, there is a digital photography workshop and a Design-Your-Own-Skateboard course.

Adult classes include long-time favourite Chicks with Picks. There will also be beginner and intermediate Spanish language courses.

New is a six-week writing workshop for adults, presented jointly by the Whistler Arts Council and the Whistler Writers' Group. Also new this year is Art Lab, social art nights taught by Jill Nowak, Andrea Mueller and Lisa Geddes.
