Doull makes deal with Duthie Books Former Whistler Question publisher Bob Doull has taken on a new role as president and chief executive of Vancouver-based Duthie Books. In the spring of this year Doull sold WestMount Press Ltd., which included among it’s stock of 22 community papers the Whistler Question, Squamish Chief and Lillooet News. The Question was the first paper bought by Doull in acquiring his newspaper chain. He purchased it from Glenda Bartosh in the mid-1980s after Bartosh purchased it from Paul Burrows, who founded the paper in 1976. Duthie Books owns a chain of 10 book stores in the Lower Mainland. The company has been run by the Duthie family since it was founded in 1957 by Bill Duthie. Celia Duthie, who has controlled the company since her father’s death in 1984, becomes chair of the private company. Doull will be responsible for the financial side of the business and oversee day-to-day operations while Duthie concentrates on policy, marketing, customer service and special programs. Doull has made a financial investment in Duthie Books.
