The newly completed lower section of Crank It Up was featured in the fifth Phat Wednesday downhill series race of the season on Aug. 22, with a field of 135 riders taking part. Although it wasn’t the most technical course of the series, it’s a long ride from top to bottom, and required a lot of pedaling. As a result, only a handful of riders managed to complete the course under five minutes.

Oliver Kristeric was the fastest male in four minutes and 57 seconds, followed by Chris Dewar just 0.64 seconds later. Mathieu Hebert came in third in 5:02.

Katrina Strand was the fastest female in 5:32, followed by Beth Parsons in 5:34 and Rebecca McQueen in 5:40.

Tyler Allison topped the Junior Male category in 5:15, chased by Max Horner in 5:16 and Andrew Goldstein in 5:19.

The Phat Wednesday series wrapped up with a chainless downhill on A-Line on Aug. 29. Results will be posted next week.

Heading into that last race, the battle for the overall series was close.

For the men, J.S. Therriou currently holds the lead with 208 points, followed by Tyler Morland with 200 points and Edward Masters with 180.

For the women, Beth Parsons lead Jen Ashton 282 points to 280 points with one race remaining. Angela Teng was third with 180.

For the junior men, Tyler Allison is securely in first place with 300 points, followed by Ian Morrison with 266 and Simon D’Artois with 252.
