A driver was injured on Dec. 22 after a southbound vehicle lost control on the section of Alta Lake Road known as "cardiac hill." The vehicle, the driver and a passenger were carried over a steep, 20-metre high embankment above Old Mill Road.
According to Whistler RCMP, the passenger walked away from the crash, while the driver was transferred to the Whistler Health Care Centre and later Vancouver General Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
While it was a quiet week overall, the RCMP also responded to two assault cases. In the first case, a Mt. Currie man was standing outside a restaurant at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 when a vehicle stopped and a man got out and assaulted him. The man who was attacked retreated into the restaurant with a black eye, a cut under his right eye and chipped teeth. The police were called soon afterwards.
The suspect in the assault was known to his victim and was later arrested. He is now facing assault charges.
The second assault occurred outside a local nightclub on Dec. 21 at 1:10 a.m. The RCMP attended the scene where a 20-year-old Burnaby resident had assaulted a doorman, punching him in the face several times. The doorman received a broken nose and damaged teeth, while the suspect was arrested and is now facing assault charges.
A stolen vehicle that was reported on the morning of Dec. 21 at roughly 6 a.m. was recovered later that day on Alta Lake Road. It appears that the thief entered an underground parking area on the Benchlands and was rummaging through vehicles before the theft. The keys may have been left in the stolen vehicle.
