Early Bird Passes for the Lost Lake Cross Country Trails went on sale on Monday, Nov. 1 and will continue to be offered through Nov. 30. There are more than 30 km of set track and groomed trails in the park, as well as a variety of snowshoe trails. Three new snowshoe loops were created for this season at 3 km, 5 km and 7 km that can be joined together for longer hikes.
"We have a total of 9 km of new snowshoe trails this season with the Tin Pants and Molly Hogan trails, and a lookout over Green Lake, which you can do in a variety of ways," said Roger Weetman, the manager of programs for the RMOW.
Opening day for the Lost Lake trails is weather dependent.
"We did get some snow this week, but it was not enough to start grooming by snowmobile, and it could warm up…. If we get a few more snowfalls we could see an early opening this year, as we did last year, but we usually won’t be open until December," said Weetman.
For the second year, there will be a second ticket booth by Mons Road and Nicklaus North, which Weetman is encouraging locals to use for their own convenience to avoid the busier ticket booth by the bridge on Lorimer.
The early bird prices are $68 for a child, $82 for a youth, $136 for an adult and $272 for a family. After Nov. 30, the prices will be $85, $102, $170 and $340 respectively.
Night passes, which are good for the four kilometres of lighted trails in the park, are free for children, $27 for youth, $54 for adults and $109 for families until Nov. 30. Afterwards, children will still be free if accompanied by an adult, but prices will go up to $34 for youth, $68 for adults and $136 for families.
Ambassador passes are also available for employees of Whistler Chamber of Commerce members. Full passes are $134 and night passes are $54.
