When: Friday, April 18

It’s time to shake, rattle and roll to a different style of music because there’s nothing quite like some angelic singing and chime bell ringing to make you feel like it’s Easter.

The Sylvan Troupe are on their way up the West Coast from California as we speak, ready to put on a show of a cappella choral selections, Appalachian folk music, staged Broadway show selections and advanced handbell and handchime music – the perfect pitch for all Good Friday festivities. This will be the fourth Sylvan Choir visit to the Chateau Whistler in 10 years but the group said they just can’t get enough of our town. Despite touring from Washington, D.C. to Banff to Maui, the group was quick to say "Whistler’s village is really as good as it gets."

This year’s program promises music and dance from early American traditions, including dulcimers, quilt dances, and a featured dance to music of Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, plus a favourite Shaker rendition "Ye Followers of the Lamb." Staged numbers from the Broadway musicals 1776 and Les Miserables and a variety of acappella choral music from the pens of Palestrina, Durufle, Shur, Clausen, and Raminsh will also be featured. Handbell pieces will include music from McChesney, Allured, Dobrinski, and Sherman, each well know for stunning handbell compositions.

The Tintinnabulists Handbell Choir will also be featured in a special Chateau Whistler Lobby Concert at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17. Savour the sounds of these young performers who literally fling a lively, eclectic, and captivating program of great singing, ringing, and dance. Admission is free but a donation per family would be appreciated.
