Elderly Squamish woman dies in house fire

An 83-year-old Squamish woman is dead following a March 2 house fire. The fire, at about 6 p.m., was noticed by a neighbour who immediately called 911. At the time the house was filled with smoke and flames were seen coming out of a window.

An 83-year-old Squamish woman is dead following a March 2 house fire.

The fire, at about 6 p.m., was noticed by a neighbour who immediately called 911. At the time the house was filled with smoke and flames were seen coming out of a window. Upon arrival, the Squamish Fire Department and RCMP discovered the body of the woman.

The investigation revealed that the woman had restricted mobility and that the fire started in her bedroom. According to the RCMP, careless smoking was responsible for the blaze.

In addition, the fire department discovered nine Marijuana plants on the second floor of the residence. The plants were immediately turned over to the to the RCMP for further investigation.

The identity of the deceased will be released upon notification of kin.
