Second Whistler elementary school low on list While confusion continues to surround the Pemberton high school, a second Whistler elementary school is also becoming a concern. Fuelled by the continual growth of Whistler the Myrtle Philip Community School could be the largest elementary school in the district this year. That has municipal officials looking at a second elementary school sooner than expected. A site for another elementary school was identified several years ago, on the bench immediately south of Emerald Estates. However, the municipal sewer system currently does not go as far north as Emerald. While the municipality has plans to eventually extend the sewer system to Emerald, Mayor Ted Nebbeling is more concerned about where another Whistler elementary school ranks on the school district's priority list. "Furry Creek is a higher priority for an elementary school that a second Whistler elementary school," Nebbeling says. "And Furry Creek currently has only one single family home." The school district is supposed to review its priority list next month.
