Embrace This Remembrance Day For Canada's Young And Old

Sacrifices made by Canadian troops of the past are remembered by many of us on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. For two minutes every year, we honour the 116,000 men and women who sacrificed their lives in the service of humanity.

Sacrifices made by Canadian troops of the past are remembered by many of us on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. For two minutes every year, we honour the 116,000 men and women who sacrificed their lives in the service of humanity. This year those sacrifices take on new meaning, as Canadian service personnel are involved in a concerted, multi-nation effort in the war against terrorism.

Just two months ago the world was a different place. As it was before 1914, 1939, 1950 and 1991, when our citizens were called to duty in Europe, Korea and the Persian Gulf. Today we face the reality of our troops fighting a new kind of war – not against nations, but against a hidden enemy.

As citizens of this great nation, we must always remember the sacrifices of those who go to war. By remembering, we pay tribute to those who fought and are fighting to protect the way of life we have, and to protect the basic freedoms all of us enjoy.

To forget the horror of man's inhumanity to others can lull us into believing it never happened. We may therefore never understand its causes and ultimately through those causes the means to a solution: a world where all of us can live free and in peace.

So this Nov. 11, please join The Royal Canadian Legion in supporting the Canadians who are serving and have served in uniform around the world. Think of those, So Lest We Forget.
