Improvised experimentation at The Shack

Once again, a west coast gang of gifted performers will be bringing the nu skool urban vibe to Whistler. Crowd Control Collective is an ever-revolving army of musicians, mainly from Van City, with one soul mission: to bring out the best in different forms of music when blended together.

From jazz to soul to hip-hop to breaks, the Triple C leave no stone unturned. Nobody knows where this night will go but that’s the reason for doing it. The artists create an energy that only musical experimentation can bring.

This unique monthly gig brings beatsmith Tim Proznick together with DJ Kilo Cee on the decks, hosts Lost Tribes Of The Sun and MC Ty-C, plus Metalwood’s Chris Tarry on bass and Scott Sanft on keys. See you at the Craaab Shaaack Feb. 15.

Joined at The Hip

Straight out of Lotus Land comes Totally Hip, a band which pays homage to the Tragically Hip's music. Bobby, Johnny, Paul and the two Gords aren't here. Instead, you've got five hard-working guys who are really into the music.

As tribute acts go, Totally Hip pays attention to detail. Michael Heagle is a young Gord Downie with a voice and energy bound to capture any audience. Then there's the singer's brother, Colin, who not only does a mean impression of Bobby Baker's gritty riffs, but his hair is pretty much the same length. No wigs here.

Rhythm guitarist Shaun McLellan strikes a chord as Paul Langlois while Bassist Reggie Hache rocks the low end with bass lines à la Sinclair. And Patrick Sharp cuts a serious groove on drums, done the Johnny Fay way – rock solid, that is. Catch them live at the Crab Shack Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Whistler Stories 4

Whistler Stories, the 12-part series exposing our local legends, airs on the Life Network every Thursday night. Episode No. 4, on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m., concentrates on Linda Stang’s big event. Watch her gather support for her upcoming pitch to council. Freeskier Cat Smiley gets a last minute chance to qualify for the world tour and artist Chili is asked to create his own show at a local gallery.
