Entrepreneur and author Val Litwin is the new CEO of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.

Litwin was named as the replacement to former CEO Fiona Famulak on Monday, Aug. 26. He takes over the role on Sept. 24, moving from Vancouver to Whistler to take up the position.

Sue Adams, chair of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce Board, said in a release that the search for the new CEO had been on a national scale.

"Our search committee cast a wide net in looking for a new CEO... The chamber board of directors is pleased to welcome such an innovative leader to the Whistler Chamber of Commerce," Adams said. "The board is confident that Val's executive leadership and visionary business strategy will be an enormous asset to the strength of our local economy."

Litwin was most recently the vice president of franchise operations at Nurse Next Door, a homecare service with locations across Canada and the U.S. He also co-founded Blo Blow Dry Bar, a "wash-and-style" franchise hair care business, which has at least 33 locations.

In his LinkedIn profile he writes:

"My passion is creating emotionally-intelligent, hard-driving teams through clear vision, robust communication and accountability. I work with fast growth companies, looking to drive into new markets or expand existing market share."

A former journalist, Litwin also describes himself as a marketing specialist and has considerable experience in public speaking on entrepreneurship.

In terms of volunteer work, Litwin was a board member of the YMCA/YWCA of Greater Victoria from 2004 to 2008, according to his LinkedIn entry. While there, he chaired a committee that raised $100,000 for the city's Partners With Youth capital fund.

He is also a co-founder of Kindness Crew, an organization that encourages involvement in community service and corporate responsibility.

His experience in non-profit led him to write two books, including "Call to Arms: Embrace a Kindness Revolution".

"It's not often you get to work with world-class people and businesses in a world-class environment," Litwin said in the release. "I'm looking forward to collaborating with our members and such a dynamic board of directors, all focused on one thing - elevating Whistler, a community that already sits at an impressive height."
