Whistler mountaineers raised $2,700 towards their Mount Everest expedition during two nights at Buffalo Bills last week. Along with T-shirt sales, the team has raised about $3,500, a tenth of what they need to finance their trip. "We still have a long, long way to go," said Jayson Faulkner, one of three Whistler member of the Everest team. Faulkner said the Bill’s event was "very worthwhile" and was pleased at the turn out and the enthusiasm of the organizers and suppliers. The only disappointment was that only four people signed the Resort Municipality of Whistler flag going to the top of Everest. Team members Faulkner, Reto Marti and Rob Driscoll will continue to fund-raise throughout the summer, setting up donation bins and selling more T-shirts. They also hope to organize a fund-raiser with the climbing wall at the base of Blackcomb. The preparation is coming along as members test equipment and finalize departure dates. The team will leave Whistler in August.
