Whistler was hit with a flurry of vehicle break-ins last week, according to police.

Over the course of Friday, Dec. 8, Whistler RCMP said it received reports of over 15 vehicles broken into at a number of parking lots across the resort, presumably overnight, said Sgt. Rob Knapton in a release.

Now investigators are examining evidence linked to the thefts in an effort to identify the suspects involved.

Knapton said there are "basic steps" vehicle owners can take to help prevent theft. Police urge the public to lock their vehicles while parked; to not leave valuables or loose change in the car, or, at least, keep them out of sight; and to never leave garage-door openers in your vehicle, particularly when parked in your driveway. Police added that theft-deterrent systems are also a valuable prevention tool.

"With the arrival of ski season, the large number of visitors to the area can be attractive for some thieves. Whistler RCMP would like everyone to have a good experience when visiting, and taking steps to prevent theft will help," the release reads.

Anyone with information on these thefts should contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044.
