Fairhurst Fishing Dock to open June 13

Three-way partnership a celebration of fishing in Whistler

Environment Minister Barry Penner, Mayor Ken Melamed and students from the Alta Lake School will be at Alta Lake Park Wednesday, June 13 for the official opening of the Fairhurst Fishing Dock and the release of cutthroat trout.

The dock was built last year by the Resort Municipality of Whistler in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and the Whistler Angling Club.

The official opening coincides with Family Fishing Week in B.C. and the Whistler Angling Club’s Fathers Day event.

The day begins at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Park. Participants will then walk via the Valley Trail to Wayside Park for a Learn to Fish program with Alta Lake School students at 10:30. The group then follows the Valley Trail to Alta Lake Park for speeches at 11 a.m.   At 11:20 the cutthroat trout will be released. Penner will then make the ceremonial first cast, followed by group fishing from the new dock.
