The harvest season has begun, a time for fresh produce, home baked goods, and handcrafted wares.
For a true country experience, grab your boots and head out to the annual Brackendale Fall Fair, Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s on Government Road, between the Brackendale Art Gallery and the elementary school.
Organized by the Brackendale Farmer’s Institute, which is celebrating its 90 th anniversary, the fair offers a taste of farming life and a chance to learn a bit about traditional and innovative farming practices. Take a ride on a tractor, and check out the many craft and food vendors or grab a homemade burger or hot dog from the Squamish Search and Rescue team.
Perhaps you feel a little competitive; there are over 200 Fall Fair categories to compete in, such as garden produce, home baking preserves, domestic animals and woodworking. Entry forms are available at Gelato Carina Squamish, the Squamish Credit Union and the Brackendale General Store.
The After Fall Fair Hootenanny starts at 8 p.m. M.C. Cam Salay will start off the event, while local folk singers and special guest Leslie Alexander hoot and holler till the wee hours. There is an $8 entrance fee at the door.
