Fall ultimate lights up

If you thought the Whistler Ultimate season was over with the league championships, you obviously underestimated the enthusiasm of local players. Every Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m. there will be drop-in Ultimate at Spruce Grove.

If you thought the Whistler Ultimate season was over with the league championships, you obviously underestimated the enthusiasm of local players. Every Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m. there will be drop-in Ultimate at Spruce Grove.

"There’s junior soccer going on at the Myrtle Philip fields, so for a moment we had no place to play, but in a matter of seconds, through the power of the cell phone, we quickly diverted everyone to Spruce Grove," say league organizer Tass Lazaridis.

The first week, the revamped league had enough players for one field, and kept playing until it was too dark to see. The second week, through the power of e-mail, enough players turned out to use two fields until nightfall.

The third week – "We’ve decided to turn some lights on and start playing ‘til 9 p.m. every Wednesday."

Everyone who wants to play has to chip in $5 which will cover the cost of the lights.

"This will give precedence to field time, and if the numbers keep increasing we’ll spark the lights on another field," says Tasso. "I hope every one will play until it snows."
