The Whistler for Youth committee on drugs and alcohol has a
launched a new program called Whistler Family Days, offering different
activities one day each month through the winter to build connections among
family members and increase communication around drugs and alcohol.
January’s activity is a family sleigh ride package sponsored by
Outdoor Adventures. Whistler families with proof of residency will receive a 50
per cent discount on a the sleigh ride package, which includes a tour in the
Lost Lake area that begins and ends at The Chalet at Chateau Whistler Golf
Course. Departure times for Family Day, Wednesday, Jan. 10, are at 4:45, 5:30,
6:15, 7, 7:45 and 8:30 p.m.
Regular price for adults is $59, and $29 for kids 5 to 12.
Younger kids are free.
The goal of the program is to create experiences that result in
tighter families, improve the way families communicate, and build the
protective factors around drugs and alcohol starting at a young age. Studies
have shown that positive activities encourage healthy development, and help
children to make positive choices and avoid high-risk behaviours.
The Drug and Alcohol Committee has been in place for 12 years,
and recently joined the Whistler for Youth group.
Details about Family Days in February, March and April will be announced as they are finalized.
