Fashionable addition to festival

Fashion Exposed showcases snow, surf, skate trends

What: Fashion Exposed

When: Friday, April 21

Where: Telus Conference Centre

Tickets: $15

People joke about British Columbians’ obsession with fleece. Braving the elements in the mountains is about warmth, comfort and practicality.

Anyone who rides a chairlift these days knows better: ski and snowboard culture is as much about style in your get up as it is in your big air.

While the term "outdoor couture" may seem like a paradox, the two come together at the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival’s newest event, Fashion Exposed, Friday, April 21 at the Telus Conference Centre.

"These brands work with artists, athletes and musicians to inspire their lines and make them relevant to today’s culture," Catherine Yates, festival arts and entertainment producer, said in a release. "Fashion Exposed will blend the same elements during the show to bring about a completely unique visual experience of displaying fashion."

The outdoor couture of 15 leading lifestyle brands, including everything from snow to surf to skate wear, will be on the runway framed by multiple screens, surround sound and music spun by DJs.

"We’re excited to have fashion as part of the lineup as the brands represented in the show have embraced a similar philosophy to that of the festival since they also blend music, art and sport into the unique styles," Yates said.

Cutting-edge fashion houses to look out for include Burton, Oakley, Salomon, Nikita, Bonfire, Peak Performance, Analog, WE, Helly Hansen, Lifetime, Quicksilver, Roxy, Matix, Sessions and Triple 5 Soul.

Advanced $15 tickets are available at http://www.whistler2006.com and the Whistler Activity Centre.
