Dusty's opens for summer - first time in 38 years

DUSTY’S OPENS FOR SUMMER — FIRST TIME IN 38 YEARS

We knew they’d come round eventually - on a perfect sunny summer day, there’s nowhere better than the Creekside Bar and BBQ with its big outdoor patio staring up at the majestic mountains. From Friday to Sunday effective immediately Dusty’s will be serving up a fresh new menu alongside popular authentic BBQ items like the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and the Slo' and Lo’ BBQ pork side ribs from the smoker.

The bar staff have been keeping busy before this big opening weekend by dicing and freezing fresh fruit for their Frozen Fruit Daiquiri program. Try the "Jamaica-Me-Crazy" with Appleton VX Estate Rum, Kahlua, and Pineapple Juice, blended with ice — guaranteed to cool you down after a big bad bike ride.

Inside will be rockin' with a summer games program that includes air hockey, fooseball, Golden Tee, pool, darts but outdoor basketball for those who need it.

Saturday Nights are Open Mic Jams with Creekside Phil and Grateful Greg, and Friday nights will soon be cranking with surprise guests. Touring artists’ concerts are also in the works.

The annual Canadian BBQ Championships will be on the August long weekend and a great Canada Day BBQ and Patio Party will feature the Hairfarmers and smoors and marshmallow roasting for the kids over an outdoor fire-pit.

Get lucky with local’s cards

Get the V.I.P. treatment just by flashing your plastic locals cards. Many restaurants around town give locals discounts of between 5 and 25 per cent for meals during the summer and potentially all year round. Always ask your server if there’s locals’ drink specials, meal discounts or cards on offer and as long as you have something showing your Whistler address, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank. Until you order that next expensive cocktail anyway.

Making kids eat their greens

Kids may no longer have to sit at the table for hours avoiding yucky vegetables in vain. A new range of salad dressings will soon be on the market with names like Purple Pizzazz and Outrageous Orange in an effort to target fussy eaters. Unbeknownst to the little angels staring at their plates, the bottles will be packed with vitamins and minerals and no artificial flavours.

Despite a dipping economy (no pun intended), the kids food market continues to grow. According to researcher Steve Dwyeri n a Prepared Foods article on www.passionateaboutfood.com kids aged between six and 12 in the U.S. spend an average of $14 billion a year on food and beverages, proving a substantial influence on their parents’ purchasing decisions. Eastern Foods, who will be distributing the product, are anticipating the new salad dressing range will not only drive fresh vegetable consumption up among kids but will promote healthy snacking between meals as well.
