Federal election on May 2 leaves plenty of time to register

Candidates set for four federal parties

For the fifth time since the year 2000, Canadians will head to the polls. Details are still being finalized for hosting the federal election on Monday, May 2, but it was confirmed this week that the advance polls are on April 22, 23 and 25. Polling stations are not confirmed at this point.

Four candidates in West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country have so far been declared. Additional candidates can submit their nomination papers until April 11.

Conservative Party of Canada - John Weston is the incumbent candidate for the riding, elected for the first time in 2008. His website is www.re-electjohnweston.ca.

Liberal Party of Canada - Daniel Veniez is a former Tory turned Grit. He became the official candidate during a leadership vote in September 2009. His website is in progress.

New Democratic Party of Canada - Terry Platt won the nomination to represent the NDP in November 2009. Her website is in progress.

Green Party of Canada - The Green Party candidate is Brennan Wauters. His website is www.brennanwauters.ca.

If you're not sure if you're registered or have moved recently, you can check in with the Elections Returning Office for the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding by contacting 1-866-202-6646. You can also register at polling stations at advance polls or on election day, also early voter registration is recommended to speed up the process.
