Festival of Lights raises over $60,000

A year of golf at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler went for $4,000; a luxury hot tub for two went for $5,000; a trip for two to Las Vegas went for $5,000; a Christmas tree, decorated by Whistler Realtors, went for $650.

A year of golf at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler went for $4,000; a luxury hot tub for two went for $5,000; a trip for two to Las Vegas went for $5,000; a Christmas tree, decorated by Whistler Realtors, went for $650.

These were only a few of the items up for bid at this year’s Festival of Lights black tie fundraiser, which was held at the Chateau Whistler on Nov. 30. The local real estate agents hold the event every year to get people into the Christmas spirit and raise money for local charitable groups.

The final total has yet to be determined, but organizer Ann Chiasson from Windermere Sea to Sky Real Estate said she expects it to be well in the range of $60,000.

The major recipient of the money this year is the Whistler Health Care Foundation, which is raising $25,000 for the purchase of a portable C-Arm X-Ray machine for the Whistler Health Care Centre. Last year, the Festival donated $25,000 to Whistler Public Library Capital Fund for the planned library and museum project.

"I think it was one of the best events we’ve had," said Chiasson. "All of the energy was very positive, we had a lot of great volunteer support. It was really very festive."

The event was sold out and was attended by more than 400 people.
