Fiji mission looks for business opportunities

High commissioner to speak in Whistler

A delegation from Fiji is coming to Whistler to talk about trade opportunities with the resort.

Fiji’s High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Jesoni Vitusagavulu, will be in Whistler on Friday, April 13.

Louise Lundy, president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, said delegations like this will be interested in coming to Whistler in the next three years to look for business opportunities.

“It really shows the opportunities we have to showcase Whistler to the world,” she said.

And it gives the Fiji delegation a chance to promote Fiji to Whistler.

The Fiji Business Centre in Vancouver is looking to promote business opportunities in Canada. Canada imports fruit, vegetables and seafood from Fiji, such as mangoes, starfruit and sweet potatoes.

Fiji also has an abundance of potential temporary skilled workers for the hospitality industry,

“You never know the connections that can be made,” said Lundy.

As the chamber expects more delegations in the years to come, Lundy said they may be looking for resort ambassadors, who speak different languages, and can showcase Whistler to international guests.
