Ryan screening in Brackendale
The Brackendale Art Gallery is adding Oscar-winning films to its mixed bag of recent programming with a screening of the 2005 Academy Award-winning animated short film Ryan on Friday, June 3.
Directed by Chris Landreth, the Canadian film is based on the life of Ryan Larkin, a visionary animator with the National Film Board of Canada in the 1970s known for creating some of the most influential animated films of his time.
The story behind the film has Landreth tracking down Larkin to find the artist living on welfare, supporting himself by panhandling in downtown Montreal.
A striking comment on the unpredictability of artistic genius, Ryan features the voices of prominent animators and artists as well as the waiters, mission-house caretakers and homeless street people that occupy Larkin’s current situation. All are portrayed though surreal, disembodied computer-generated 3D characters from the mind of Landreth.
The 14-minute film will be accompanied at the Brackendale screening by Alter Egos , a NFB documentary directed by Laurence Green about the making of Ryan and the relationship that developed between Larkin and Landreth.

Movie Nights launch in Pemberton
The Pemberton Youth Centre launches a new fundraiser movie series on Friday, June 3 with a screening of the animated family film Robots .
Pemberton Movie Nights will screen approximately 10 films between now and Christmas with all proceeds going to the Pemberton Youth Centre.
The films will be big screen blockbusters that are no longer in theatres, but have not yet been released on video/DVD. The series will alternate family movies, such as Robots , with more adult big screen fare.

Trailer Park Boys at MY Place for Charity
Polish your coke-bottle glasses, trim up your handlebar mustaches and dig out your tear-away track pants. It’s time to show a little Trailer Park pride!
Whistler-Blackcomb’s Club Shred employee entertainment program is hosting a Trailer Park Boys marathon tonight (Thursday, June 2) in the Millennium Place theatre.
The event features a screening of the entire fourth season of the cult Canadian comedy series, a mockumentary-style show chronicling the hilarious antics of a hapless crew of fictional Nova Scotia trailer park dwellers, chiefly three bosom buddies known as Ricky, Bubbles and Julian.
Show goers are encouraged to come in costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best Trailer Park get-ups. Those unfamiliar with the show should be prepared for rough language and alcohol and drug themes throughout.
The event is a fundraiser for the Easter Seals 24-Hour Relay For The Kids, a June event held to raise money to send disabled children to summer camp.
The Trailer Park Boys marathon runs 8-11 p.m. Tickets are $5, available at the venue and in advance from Sammy’s Snacks, The Cabin and The Springs Building.
