Film submission deadlines approaching

The deadline for feature film submissions for the fifth annual Whistler Film Festival is approaching fast.

The deadline for feature film submissions for the fifth annual Whistler Film Festival is approaching fast.

Films will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 23.

Canadian feature films premiering at the festival are eligible for the $10,000 Phillip Borsos Award. New this year is the Best Mountain Culture Film Award, which recognizes a film that celebrates mountain experiences, mountain places, and mountain people. It may include history, arts, lifestyle, adventure, sports, and environmental themes or issues.

This year will also feature the premiere screenings of the first four films made under the Whistler Stories legacy competition. Slated to run annually up until the Olympic Games in 2010, the program chooses four projects per year to receive $5,000 to create a short film which must be based on stories from Whistler or the Sea to Sky corridor.

The festival will announce this year’s four selected projects on Sept. 6.

The fifth annual Whistler Film Festival takes place Dec. 1-4. For more information go to www.whistlerfilmfestival.com.
