A First Night for everyone

Good, clean, fun is the order of the day for Whistler’s First Night festivities. The Village Square right through to Town Plaza Gazebo and Millennium Place will come alive with colour and comedy from 6 p.m. till after midnight on Dec. 31. Street performers, bands, stalls, art installations, DJs and even a marriage minister will be yours all evening.

Watch out for some strange street performers. The festive fashion police will be out in force and other crazy comrades, from the carrot top circus to jugglers and improvising acting troupes. You’ll never know what you’ll be roped in to.

Some of Whistler’s best bands are performing on the night. Make sure you catch the Hairfarmers, two long-haired rockers who’ve been buddies for years. They’re otherwise known as Guitar Doug and Grateful Greg.

The Gordo Trio are another local staple, playing all your favourites from the ’60s through to today. And if you like your bluegrass, the Tragically Hick will get you moving among the madness.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $4 for kids under 12. You can buy them from municipal hall, Meadow Park Sports Centre and on the night at the entry point gates.

Buses into town will be free from 8 p.m. onwards. Inbound services will be suspended from 10 to 12 p.m.
