The Whistler Mountain Ski Club FIS team didnt know what to expect when they headed to the Rockies last week in search of snow and training opportunities, but the weather beat them there.
The skiers have trained at Sunshine Village, Nakiska and Panorama, mixing in freeskiing with racing to develop basic balance, and a relaxed attitude.
"We are insisting on each racer developing a perfect balance platform on their skis from which they can be dynamic and generate speed," says WMSC coach Brett Macfarlane. "Jordan (Williams, coach) has fuelled us with a philosophy of simplicity over complexity and the results have been truly amazing."
On Dec. 2, the FIS team will split into three groups. One group will return to Whistler to train, one group will move to Panorama to train for an upcoming technical series, and the other group will go to Lake Louise for the upcoming NorAm speed series.
Two NorAm Super Gs that were scheduled for Beaver Creek, Colorado, have been moved to Lake Louise, beefing up the racing schedule:
Dec. 3 FIS Hershey Cup super G, mens and womens events
Dec. 4, 5 NorAm SG, mens and womens (mens events from Beaver Creek)
Dec. 6, 7, 8 NorAm downhill training, mens and womens
Dec. 9, 10 NorAm downhill races
Dec. 11 NorAm Super G
