Flood closes Myrtle Philip school

Extends spring break by one day

There will be no school for students of Myrtle Philip School on Monday March 20 th due to a serious flood.

There will also be an information meeting for parents to discuss the situation on Monday at 7 p.m. at the school.

A watermain fitting separated on a 20-cm pipe in the school’s utility room beside the Grade 1 class on Saturday afternoon.

The weight of the water collapsed some of the lower wall between the utility room and the classroom, allowing the floodwaters to rise up to three feet in the class then spill out into the rest of the school.

Restoration services were on site within 45 minutes, after a teacher working in the school alerted authorities.

It is hoped clean up work will be completed by Sunday, March 19, however, this means Monday will be required to reassemble and organize classroom furniture and learning resources in order for the school to open on Tuesday.

As more information becomes available it will be posted on the school district website at www.sd48.bc.ca.
