A new photo competition will put photographers on equal point and shoot setting during the Crankworx festival.
Guts and Glory Productions hosts the first annual Hukclik photo competition July 22 in Whistler.
“I wanted everyone on a level playing field,” said Arnie Gutmann of Guts and Glory Productions.
He recalled competing in Snowboard Canada’s 24/36 photo competition where photographers have 24 hours to shoot a roll of 36 photos. Photographers could get an edge on competitors with better equipment, but not with Hukclik.
Photographers will have 24 hours to shoot images with a disposable camera. Photos will be based on the theme of biking.
“Biking can be anything,” Gutmann said. “That doesn’t mean the biggest jumps. How you tackle it creatively will have the most weight.”
A jury of prominent photographers and a pro rider will judge the competition, including writer Ian Miller, sports-action photographer Bruce Rowles and pro rider Brad Bethune.
The competition will culminate in an exhibit July 24 at Behind the Grind, where winning photos will be framed and hung along with a slide show of other images from the competition. Animal Nation will perform the latest tracks from their new album, Time Zone .
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Whistler Animals Galore (WAG) animal shelter, the Zero Ceiling Society and Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA).
