food bank

Invest in the food bank Aside from thinking about the reasons for Christmas, or about the gifts under the tree, thinking about food is a major holiday season activity. Thinking about how others will eat during this festive time brings us to make a pitch for Whistler’s Food Bank. If you need help from the Food Bank, it operates at the Skiers Chapel from 9-11 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month. Just show up. No questions asked, no forms to fill out. If you are in dire straits, call Whistler Community Services at 932-0113 for the emergency food bank number. The Food Bank also had extra distribution days in November to mid-December to help folks waiting for that first paycheque to come in that would do more than go entirely to cover rent. The need is definitely there. That’s where the rest of us can come in, to make a donation of food or money to keep the Food Bank supplied. If you can spare them, the Food Bank needs any non-perishable goods. They can be dropped off at the Whistler Community Services office at Myrtle Philip Community Centre, or placed in the donor boxes at Whistler IGA and Nesters. Cash donations are always appreciated, as are cheques made out to Whistler Community Services with a note on it to say where you want the donation to go. They can be dropped off at the community centre office, or at the Parks and Recreation office in the same building if the WCS is closed. Or mail the cheques to Whistler Community Services, Box 900, Whistler, B.C., V0N 1B0.
