Damon Hanly of the new band The Unprofessionals invites music lovers to a free, multi-band concert of local talent on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Merlin’s.

“It’s a free gig for just the love of music,” Hanly said.

Along with The Unprofessionals, Joel McIsaac, Ja Dub from Dub Empire, Queen Anne’s Revenge and Graham will take to the stage.

The Unprofessionals emerged from a series of jam nights around Whistler this year. The crew of singer Hanly, guitarist Lee Finck, singer Mandy P. and drummer Mad Mike began working original music in the spirit of funk and reggae.

“We were really influenced by The Dub Empire,” he said of the former Whistler band.

Dub Empire’s Sick Boy song is the only cover that will work its way into The Unprofessionals’ set.

If skies are sunny, acoustic sets will take place on the outdoor patio from 4 to 7 p.m. Then the show will move indoors with non-stop music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
