A former West Vancouver mayor wants to take on MP John Weston in the next federal election. Pam Goldsmith-Jones revealed this week she'll seek the West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country Liberal nomination.

Goldsmith-Jones has met with Liberal supporters, and she is currently circulating a campaign-style document outlining her qualifications. She is working on her Executive MBA at Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business. As well, she is running a consulting firm.

Goldsmith-Jones is joining two Sunshine Coast residents who declared their intentions earlier.

Riding association president Ken Halliday said on Monday, April 14, that the nomination process just opened. Goldsmith-Jones had not submitted nomination papers as of Monday. Judith Newbergher-Renaud and Robert Cannon-Brown have submitted papers, and Halliday noted their documents are under review.

"There are two other people that have requested the candidate application package, which doesn't mean anything other than that they have requested it," said Halliday.

Halliday said the federal Liberals are going to nominate candidates across the country in three waves over the next year in anticipation of an election on Oct. 19, 2015.

He doesn't know yet if this riding will be directed to nominate its candidate this spring, in the fall or next spring. He's awaiting direction on the nomination process from the party's leadership.
