Whistler Blackcomb made it to the final list of B.C.'s Top 50 Employers.

Whistler Blackcomb has been named one of British Columbia's top employers by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers, an annual competition held by an academic advisory board drawn from universities across Canada.

WB made it to the final list of B.C.'s Top 50 Employers for instituting eight staff-friendly policies, the organizers said, including:

"Flexible hours, shortened work week, reduced summer hours and a formal earned days-off program; developing a model of environmental and social stewardship for ski and mountain resort operations; share-purchase plan that is available to all employees; in-house and online training programs; formal mentoring; career planning services; generous tuition subsidies for courses taken at outside institutions and in-house apprenticeships; generous academic scholarship program for children of employees who pursue post-secondary education (to $3,000); retirement-planning assistance; contributions to a matching RSP plan (to two per cent of salary)."

The resort employs 2,800 full time staff.

In a release, Whistler Blackcomb said it's practices had been considered against the most progressive and forward-thinking employee programs.

"We are honoured to be slotted in among B.C.'s finest and will continue to improve the quality of experience here at Whistler Blackcomb, both for our employees and our guests," said Joel Chevalier, director of employee experience at Whistler Blackcomb, in a release.

Vancouver Coastal Health — which covers the Sea to Sky Region, including Whistler — was also named one of B.C.'s Top 50 Employers.

As well as the main award, there were three other accolades for the Whistler Blackcomb.

The resort was recognized as one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People for 2012 for its benefits, opportunities, training and mentoring programs, the 2012 BC Hydro Power Smart Excellence Awards Winner in the Power Smart Leader category, and, for the fourth year in a row, one of Canada's Greenest Employers.
