Freeriders go nuts

Some of the top freeriders and downhill mountain bikers in the region took part in the first P-Nut?s Wild ride down the 19 th Hole in Squamish on Sept. 23 ? over one and a half kilometres of steep, technical singletrack.

Pro downhill veteran Ted Tempany, a.k.a. Big Red Ted, didn?t waste any time on his way down, pulling up to the finish line in 6:05.80.

Whistler?s Jeff Beatty, the junior national and provincial champion was just 4.12 seconds back of Ted.

Third went to North Shore rider Jason Lorenz in 6:26.74.

Ely Walsh, Matt McNulty, E.Z. E, and Chris Colbeck ? Beatty?s coach with the Single Track Off Road Mountain Bike Club of Whistler ? were fourth through seventh.

Chad Miles, who was seventh in the pro men?s category in the Cheakamus Challenge the day before, was eighth. Jason Chapman was ninth, and Paddy Kaye 10th in 7:07.54.

Mark Jenner was tops in the Sport Men category in 7:51.06, followed by Terry Lorette and Tim Langille.

In the Junior Men?s race, it was Aaron Kempf on top in 6:47.76, followed by Daryl Leduke and Graham Roberge Graham.

The only woman in the contest, Danielle Raiser, finished in 18:57.06.
