Members of the Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Club were strong in
the first provincial series event of the season in Revelstoke. The big air
competition was cancelled because of the conditions, and travel was difficult
with avalanches closing the road to Revelstoke.
The 15 Whistler skiers made the best of the two remaining
single and dual moguls competitions, earning 12 medals in their respective age
categories. Athletes even broke out back flips that they had practiced on the
water ramps in the summer.
Liam Measure, 12, placed second in both single moguls and dual
moguls.
Mitchell Wilson, 11, won bronze in single moguls and gold in
dual moguls.
Sophie Mcgrogor, 12, of West Vancouver won two bronze medals.
Jae Woo Choi, 14, won gold in single moguls and silver in dual
moguls.
Yuki Tsubota, 14, of Pemberton won two silver medals.
Annik Tetreault, 16, won two silver medals.
The next event for the team is a provincial series halfpipe on Blackcomb, Jan. 23-24, which will be held in conjunction with a B.C. Snowboard Association event.
