Freestyle club on top at Silver Star

Team wins nine medals in three events

The Blackcomb Freestyle Club, missing two of its stars to the Sports Illustrated Next Snow Search, managed to earn nine medals and as many top-10 results at the second of three provincial competitions at Silver Star last weekend.

In the moguls competition more than 100 skiers took part from clubs around the province. Even with that competition, the BFC’s Dana Jensen took the silver medal in the juvenile ladies category, while teammate Devon Krainer joined her on the podium with a bronze.

Tom McKay just missed the podium in the juvenile men’s group, finishing fourth by just 0.64 points. In the junior men’s category Eddie Hicks finished second.

The big air took place the next day. Cam Doyle finished third and Hicks fifth among the junior men, a category that was dominated by the home Silver Star club.

Tom McKay finished fourth once again in the juvenile category, while Satoko Hirano took first place in the senior women’s division.

With a fresh coat of snow for the final dual moguls contest, Eddie Hicks won the junior category while Doyle collected his second bronze of the weekend. Tom McKay broke out of fourth to finish second in the juvenile category.

In the women’s competition, Dana Jensen made it to the finals to place second, while Krainer collected her second bronze of the weekend with a win in the small final.

The BFC is now focussing on its next competition, the provincial championships on Blackcomb scheduled for March 18-20.
