Freestyle lands' attracting interest Six weeks after council turned down a proposal to rezone land in Adventures West in exchange for a freestyle facility on Blackcomb the five parcels of land have gone on the market. On Jan. 16 council voted 4-2 against a bylaw which would have allowed subdivision of the five parcels and created 22 single family lots surrounding Alta Lake Resort. Council's decision came a week after a public hearing which attracted nearly 200 people, many of whom expressed concern about the location of the development proposal (near the River of Golden Dreams) and the extraordinary circumstances clause under which the proposal was being considered. Last week the land, owned by McDonald's of Canada, was advertised as "5 Outstanding Estate Properties." The parcels, which range in size from 1.96 acres to 8.39 acres, would each allow a 5,000 square foot house or a 5,500 square foot hostel under their current RR1 zoning. Don Wensley of the Whistler Real Estate Co. Ltd., says he has given out between 20 and 25 information packages on the property and expects two or three of the parcels will be sold by the end of March. "There's lots of RR1 land in Whistler, but not a lot that's on a quiet road and serviced with hydro, sewer and water," Wensley says.
