Freestylers on the podium at Mt. Washington

The B.C. Freestyle competition series wrapped up this past weekend with the championships taking place at Mt. Washington. A full roster of members of the Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club took part, many of them coming away with overall titles.

In Super Youth moguls, Aoife Gannon placed fourth in F5 (ages 10 and 11), less than half a point back of the podium. Teammate Karly Peterson was sixth and Daria Rivera 10th.

Anna Wilkinson topped the F6 category (ages 9 and under, while teammate Erin Wilson just missed the podium in fourth. Mai Schwinghammer was sixth, Ali Rainnie seventh, Skye Clarke eighth, Chase Capicik ninth and Katelyn Peterson 12th.

Luke Smart topped the boys' M5 group, while teammate David Wilkinson just missed the podium in fourth. Jonas Gabelhouse was fifth, Anders Ujejski seventh, Chase Ujejski eighth, Seth McGregor ninth, Sam Cordell 11th, Kevin Madi 13th, Evan Phillips 14th, Evan Low 15th, Kevin Leslie 16th, Carter Krasny 17th and Charlie McMillan 18th.

Kait Smart topped the M6 category, with Liam Rivera placing fourth, Daniel Gannon seventh, Riley Bowie ninth, Dylon Rainnie 10th, Sam Wilkinson 14th and Gardner Hartwick 15th.

Nicola Halliwell and Yuki Tsubota were the only girls competing in F2 (ages 16 to 18), with Halliwell edging Tsubota by just 0.42 points after two runs.

Provincial team skier and Nor-Am Cup winner Andi Naude won the F3 group (ages 14 and 15) with the highest score of the day, male or female. Whistler's Sophie McGregor was second.

In M3, Nikolas Blomberg was 19th. In M4, Charles Armstrong was ninth, Ben Wilkinson 10th, Michael Madi 12th, Ryan Wood 17th, Andrew Wood 23rd and Aidan McConnell 25th.

In dual moguls, the big story was a Whistler sweep of the M5 category with Luke Smart first, Seth McGregor second and Jonas Gabelhouse third. Kai Smart and Sofiane Gagnon both won their categories, with Mackenzie Wilson placing third. Brenden Kelly was second in the M2 category, landing a backflip kossack jump that was one of the best airs of the weekend.

In slopestyle, Aoife Gannon was sixth in F5 while Karly Peterseon and Daria Rivera were eighth and ninth.

Kai Smart went two for two for championship titles in M6. Riley Bowie was fifth, Liam Rivera seventh, Daniel Gannon ninth, Dylon Rainnie 11th and Gardner Hartwick 13th.

Yuki Tsubota topped the F2 slopestyle, with Cassandra Sharpe of the B.C. Team in second and Nicola Halliwell placing third.

Sophie McGregor was second in F3 and in F4 Sofiane Gagnon was second and Mackenzie Wilson fifth.

Logan Pehota was third in M2.

Taylor Wilson won the M3 category, with Brenden Kelly placing fourth. Bradley Pudritz was 12th and Nikolas Blomberg 13th.

Mitchell Wilson won the M4 category, with Charles Armstrong placing fourth, Aidan McConnell ninth Ben Wilkinson 20th, Ryan Wood 22nd and Andrew Wood 23rd.
