Freestylers top provincial series competition 

The Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club took a team of 17 athletes to the first of three provincial series competitions at Apex last weekend. Almost 130 athletes took part in two moguls competitions and a big air competition from clubs around the province, record attendance for a provincial event. The Whistler club earned 22 medals.

Pemberton's Yuki Tsubota, 15, placed second in the first moguls event and first in both the second moguls competition and big air contest to return home with three medals.

Whistler's Nicola Halliwell, 17, also earned three medals in the competitive junior category, all silver.

Sofiane Gagnon, 10, earned a bronze in the first moguls contest, a silver in the second and a gold in the big air.

Several athletes also won medals in two events. Mackenzie Wilson, 10, was first in the second moguls contest and second in the big air.

Sarah Lawson, 14, was third in the first moguls event and third in the big air.

Mitchell Wilson, 12, was third in the first moguls and won the second event.

Jake McGregor, 16, was third in the first moguls and first in the second.

Keita Hiroshima, 23, won both senior men's moguls competitions.

Sophie McGregor, 13, of West Vancouver and Brendan Kelly, 14, of Pemberton both won their age categories in the big air. Liam Measure, 13, of Whistler placed second in the big air.

The second event in the B.C. Freestyle Ski Association's provincial series takes place at Mt. Washington from Feb. 19 to 21.
