After a near fatal heart attack two years ago, Bill “Watermelon Slim” Homas quit his job as an industrial waste hauling truck driver to become a bona fide blues musician. Thus spawned blues music’s latest sensation, Watermelon Slim and the Workers.
The four-member band will be singing their unique form of blues in Whistler Friday, July 6 th , at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC).
Though only recently entering the music scene, Watermelon Slim and the Workers have already earned six Blues Music Association nominations, including Band of the Year and Album of the Year.
And their unique style of blues, rooted in Mississippi Delta Blues, has made them one of the most talked about blues bands in today’s music scene.
Slim and the Workers are not taking their newfound fame lightly. The band is currently on a nonstop tour around the world — playing shows in the US, Canada, France, Norway, Australia and New Zealand.
They also just released their latest album, The Wheel Man , in April. The 14-track album features special guests Magic Slim and David Maxwell and was produced by Chris Wick on the Northern Blues Music Label.
