Function’s water safe

The boil water advisory for Function Junction has been lifted.

Jon Perrett, owner of Van West Water Utilities, the private water company in Function, confirmed this week that the water is safe.

A boil water advisory had been in effect since June 22 after a water test came back with a high coliform count.

Perrett said subsequent tests on the water revealed the coliform did not come from the ground source aquifer.

"It was not the source," he said.

It still is not clear how the test became contaminated but health authorities lifted the boil water advisory this week.

Van West Water Utilities is the only private water company in Whistler and services Function Junction.

For the record

In last week’s Pique article "Function Junction’s water still undergoing testing" we incorrectly stated the water tests had come back with a high count of chloroform instead of coliform, a class of bacteria. Pique regrets the error.
