When you want to mix up the vibe with melodic punk or heavy guitar, there’s always Punk Night Sundays at the Boot Pub.

This week’s Punk Night features local bands Slush and Huskavarna together for an evening of solid jams with high flying aerials. Part of punk, after all, is in the performance.

The Slush lineup is Matt Elliott on guitar and vocals, Adam Leggatt on guitar and vocals, Darrell on bass, and Jamie on drums.

"Adam writes most of the songs, and sometimes we don’t even see the lyrics until the song is played live. For a punk band he’s a little more high pitched, part of our sound," says Jamie.

Slush mixes up subjects, with Drop Your Gloves, a song about "an old lady living at home, who one day just breaks out," he says.

Slush perform songs from their upcoming album, as yet untitled and due for release in March, 2002. Their sixth demo since 1994, the album is being completed at Big Midget Studios in East Vancouver, where Swollen Members also produce.

Huskavarna also headlines the Sunday show. They describe their music as "thrasher metal punk" and always follow through with energetic playing that might involve a leap or two through the air with their guitars in hand. The band plays songs from CDs like Music for Pornos.
