In memory of Tony Tyler and his contributions to Whistler Minor Hockey, the Tapleys Pub old-timers hockey club is holding a golf tournament and fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 11.
Until a heart attack took his life last summer, Tyler worked hard for the organization and helped to sponsor hockey teams and players. His family asked that friends donate to Whistler Minor Hockey rather than sending flowers or gifts, and the tournament was created to continue to honour their wishes.
Following the tournament, the fundraiser will move to Tapleys Pub for a social.
With the help of local businesses, the tournament raised almost $5,000 last season, which was divided between the minor hockey association and the Tony Tyler Foundation, which gives scholarships to local high school hockey players for their post-secondary education.
The golf tournament is already sold out to old-time hockey players, but members of the public are invited to attend the fundraiser at Tapleys, which will include dinner specials, draws and other activities. Businesses that are interested in participating are invited to contact Dave Beattie at 604-905-8855 or sea2sky@direct.ca.
