Some of the top local snowboard and skier cross racers turned out to the third annual Garfinkel’s Japan Doublecross on Blackcomb Mountain on April 3.

Some of the top local snowboard and skier cross racers turned out to the third annual Garfinkel’s Japan Doublecross on Blackcomb Mountain on April 3.

The Women’s Ski category went to Victoria Cole, followed by Ashleigh McIvor, Adriana Sylvestre and Michelle Rudell. Cole also posted the fastest run through the course in the time trials at 47.91 seconds.

The Men’s Ski category went to Davey Barr, folowed by Luke Dolan, Joseph Gibbons and Ken Pederson. Matt Tweedy won the small final, followed by Craig Webster, Rejean Amirault, and Justin Ralph.

The fastest training run out of 23 entries belonged to third place finisher Joseph Gibbons in 42.2 seconds.

The women’s snowboard competition went to Candice Drouin, who both skis and snowboards in cross events. She posted the second-fastest time in the women’s time trials the day before.

Drouin edged out Bodil Drewson, Elizabeth Morland and Kerry Martin in the final heat.

The top spot in the small final went to Tara Curle, trailed by Robin Van Gyn, Cori Olafson and Lauren Sampson.

The men’s snowboard competition included 25 riders. Perry Bizyk claimed the top spot, and was trailed by Derek Wintermans, Owen Leno and Adrian Walendzewiaz. Bizyk posted the fastest time in the time trial, 47.34 seconds, and Wintermans was the second fastest in 49.01.
