More help for Garibaldi resort push The Garibaldi at Squamish resort development team has added District of Squamish Administrator Bob Miles to its ranks. Miles, the district’s administrator for the past six-and-a-half years, will trade in his government shoes for a pair of ski boots Jan. 1, when he assumes the position of vice-president administration and project development for the mountain resort developer. Garibaldi is expected to submit its environmental assessment report to the province next week. The company will then be in the environmental assessment review process, where details of the resort proposal are made public. Garibaldi at Squamish has hired Miles to monitor the environmental assessment process and ensure there is a timely review of the reports and studies submitted by the company. He will also monitor the work of consultants and assist in the company’s administration. "We look forward to the contribution (Miles) will provide at Garibaldi in our quest to build a resort with strong ties to the communities of Squamish," says Wolfgang Richter, Garibaldi chairman and CEO. Garibaldi is planning to open a four-season mountain resort just north of Squamish by Christmas 1999. Skiing and snowboarding will be featured on the mountain’s 3,100-foot vertical drop in the winter. In summer, activities will focus on hiking, mountain biking, tennis and golf.
