While cross-country riders from across Canada will be
converging on Whistler for a Canada Cup race on Saturday, Sunday will belong to
Squamish.
The annual Gearjammer race is back, and this year is the third
event in the “Hell of a Series” marathon cross-country racing series. The
organizers are expecting to sell out this year, with 500 racers at the start
line.
The course is long, 47 km from start to finish, ranging from
fast to technical. Some of the trails include Ed’s Bypass, Middle Powersmart,
Pseudo Tsuga, the Powerhouse Plunge, and most of the trails in the Crumpit
Woods area. In addition, a new descent called ReCycle has been added to the
course.
The “Hell of a Series” also included the Brodie Rat Race in
Roberts Creek and the Test of Metal, which includes many of the same trails as
the Gearjammer.
The cost is $55 if you don’t have a race license, or $45 with a
license. A full range of age categories, as well as pro elite categories, are
open to participants.
