Get ready to sing

Call for new choir members

Whistler Children’s Chorus music aficionados Alison Hunter and Janet Hamer invite children and youth alike to join the choir’s 15 th year of bringing music to Whistler.

This year’s choir, which begins rehearsals next week, extends an invite to youth outside of the elementary and high school circuit.

In response to many ex-choir students who left high school, but still want to participate in the choir, chorus officials have bumped the senior choir age to 25 years old.

"Some of our ex-choir members have now finished school (including university) and want to sing with us again," choir co-director Hunter explained. "We figure we are providing another alternative to the bar scene for the early 20s as well as getting great role models for our high school kids."

Hunter and Hamer facilitate three different choirs. The Whistler Children’s Chorus is made up of two choirs: junior (Grade 1-3) and intermediate (Grade 4-7). The two songstresses also host the Whistler Chorus for youth 13-25 years old.

Choirs perform a variety of music styles, from classical to modern, at various community events around town, including the annual Christmas Eve carol service.

All children and youth are welcome to join the choirs. No audition necessary. The Whistler Children’s Chorus rehearses every Tuesday starting Sept. 12, and the Whistler Chorus rehearses every Wednesday starting Sept. 6.
